Qualified Altitude Trainer
Chips gained his first experiences in simulated altitude training back in 2002 working with Russia's highly respected Dr Arkadi F.Prokopov advisor to Hypoxico Inc USA
The various protocols of sleeping ,training and Intermittent Hypoxic Training IHT were refined and used in developing the performance of Triathletes and cyclists.
More recently Chips has adapted the Hypoxic Training for high altitude mountaineering with successful summit bids of Aconcagua 22814 ft South Americas highest mountain as well as three of Peru's highest peaks and various Swiss Alpine peaks.
Chips is presently coaching Everest West Ridge 2006
Lecturing
Chips lectures for various high profile organisations on Hypoxic Training and developing extreme endurance; most recently the British Petroleum BP Exploratory Group and The Association of British Cycling Coaches ABCC at their Annual Conference.
Career
Chips Rafferty spent most of a coaching career in the Army Physical Training Corps Coaching and Training elite athletes in numerous sports as well as preparing soldiers fit for duty.
Whilst working full time at the Joint Services Mountain training Wing at Ripon he is currently serving in the TA as an Adventure Training specialist with HQ 15 Brigade.
Performance
His personal performance over 3 decades has seen achievements including Top 20 Finisher London Marathon! 3 X Combined/Service Triathlon Champion and most recently silver medallist Long Course World Duathlon Championship (Austria 2003) World Championship Ironman qualifier Canada.
Adventurous highlights include leader of the first descent of Lows Gully Borneo, many of the worlds most challenging caves and numerous world mountain ranges
Academic
An academic profile including a Master's Degree discounts any accusation of "all brawn and no brain" as do current coaching qualifications including English Institute of Sports "High Performance Coach".
Coaching
Coaching achievements recently include two National Age Group Champions, winner and runner up Home Nations Triathlon Championship and four GB Triathlon / Duathlon Representatives.
He recently coached the services team in their attempt on the West Ridge of Everest which has never been climbed by a British team.
