Oxygen
is used to convert glucose into energy for all living cells,
it is fundamentally important for energy production. We can
go for weeks without food, days without water, but only minutes
without oxygen.
Unfortunately breathing more air does not necessarily increase
the amount of oxygen in the cells - it can have the opposite
effect.
Due to the careful Ph balance of blood which controls oxygen
release and carbon dioxide removal, people who breathe too
frequently can find their oxygen becomes very tightly bound
to the blood instead of being freely released into the cells.
This long term lack of oxygen at a cellular level can result
in low energy levels and disease.
Hypoxic training increases the sensitivity of the cell membrane
and restores the normal release of oxygen from the blood.
