Altitude training is now accessible to everyone, not just
the world champions, and the more unfit you are the better
the results will be.
Altitude training is a form of stress training just like
lifting weights in the gym. As you train your body with weights
it adapts in order to cope with lifting heavier amounts. Altitude
training works in a similar way. By training your body with
less oxygen it adapts in order to become more efficient with
the available oxygen. The complex adaptations that occur improve
your oxygen efficiency right down to a cellular level. It
is these physiological changes that enable athletes to break
work records, climbers to climb even higher without supplementary
oxygen and for people who are of ill health to regain full fitness.
