Behind the Scenes: Welsh RFU Altitude Training Camp

The perfect prep for the Six Nations opener? Wattbike sprints at 4000m of simulated altitude!

Hypoxic Training is becoming an ever present in the world of elite rugby conditioning. A study conducted at the Welsh RFU, led by Adam Beard (now of the Chicago Cubs), highlighted that their players could significantly improve their repeated sprint ability in as little as 2-weeks with the use of hypoxic training.

When the players only arrive as a squad a few weeks ahead of the first game, every session counts and the research shows that they certainly do.

For international squads, the benefits are obvious. Big performance gains in a short space of time. What is not to love?

Team Sports: Altitude Training Camps

With the ever increasing tempo of team sports, repeated sprint ability is a key metric to work on in order to ensure your squad are ready to play. We’ve worked with teams to provide pre-season altitude training camps, as well as mid-season training camps when time is of the essence.

Something which is increasingly apparent, is the benefit of protocols such as this for players that are in isolation due to COVID. The limitations on how they can train from home mean that every single percent is vitally important, and this is one way of maximising that.
