The Altitude Centre x Tenzing

We love utilising the many benefits of altitude training to help our clients to reach their goals, whatever they may be. So when Tenzing got in touch with us to see if we can help get their clients ready for the climb ahead – we were more than happy to do so!

What does the Trek involve

Between the 16th April and the 2nd May 2020, The Tenzing Team will be making their way to Everest Base Camp, before moving on to Lobuche East (6,119m) which boasts some spectacular views across the Himalaya. The 17-day trek will also take in some of the Himalaya’s most spectacular natural and spiritual landmarks along the way.

The trip will be guided by Jamling Tenzing Norgay, son of Tenzing Norgay who along with Edmund Hillary, were the first two confirmed climbers to stand atop of the highest mountain in the world, at the summit of Mount Everest.

Tenzing are also offering exclusive places to The Altitude Centre clients, so if you want to apply, check out the trek page here.

To get these adventurers trek ready we’ll be starting off with our Mountaineering Consultation, in order to get an idea of exactly how each of them respond to altitude, and guide their acclimatisation training.

It is really important to understand that every individual will react differently to altitude, and it’s not a blanket one size fits all when it comes to preparation, so having a baseline marker is vitally important. The key, however, is that everyone can acclimatise , it just takes some a little longer than others to do so.

“Every individual will react differently to altitude… everyone can acclimatise.”

We’ll follow up the consultation with our individually tailored advice on training for the trek, as well as some individual and group training sessions tailored towards mountain fitness and altitude acclimatisation.

As a general guide, there are three ways you can train, including Sleep, IHE, and Exercise sessions at altitude. For high altitude treks, we do recommend incorporating IHE sessions as a must, but individual circumstances can dictate exactly what the best programme is for each person.

Keep your eyes peeled to see more from the Tenzing Trekkers over the coming months!

If you are planning a trek to Everest Base Camp, or Kilimanjaro, or any other high altitude trek or climb, and interested in finding out more about the benefits of pre-acclimatisation and how we can help you prepare, take a look at our Mountaineering Consultation, or get in touch via email at [email protected] for more info.
