14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible

In the world of adventure and mountaineering there is only one thing everyone is talking about at the moment, and that is Netflix’s new documentary, 14 Peaks: Nothing is Impossible. It tells the improbable story of Nepalese mountaineer Nirmal ‘Nimsdai’ Purja, who set out to climb all 14, eight thousand metre mountains at world record pace. “The previous record was seven years” Nims says as documentary starts. “If I can stay alive, I can do it in 7 months.” This was no ordinary challenge.

Mid-way through the film, with Nims in the depth of the Karakorum on his quest to summit Nanga Parbat, Gashabrum I & II, K2 and Broad Peak in only 20 days, the camera cuts away to a wide shot of London. Enter The Altitude Centre.

Nims and his team visited us to understand exactly what it was about his physiology that allowed him to climb so high, so quickly, and recover so well. For that, we took him through our mountaineering consultation, which is available for anyone who is climbing to any altitude to do! It’s a consultation we’ve developed to be suitable for first time mountaineers to would-be Everest summiteers, to test the response to altitude and current level of acclimatisation.

It should be no surprise that the data were excellent, but for the full results, you’ll have to watch the documentary! Can you beat Nims?
